Turnaround Schools Making AYP!

Congratulations to two turnaround schools featured in the work we have been sharing over the last year, The Academy at Shawnee and Atkinson Academy for meeting 100% of their NCLB- Annual Yearly Progress targets for 2011.

Both schools have been working very hard to implement turnaround practices shared here, and their work is paying off for their students. Atkinson students have been on the rise over the last few years and gained more than 10 points in reading and 6 in math this year. Shawnee’s efforts are, also, impressive as student gained almost 23 points in reading and 20 in math.

We want to thank Dr. Keith Look and Dr. Dewey Hensley for sharing their expertise and time with us. You can read more about the 2011 AYP results here and here.

Additional congratulations to Dr. Look for being named one of the 40 under 40 to watch in 2001 in Louisville by Business First, and to Dr. Hensley for being appointed Associate Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE’s) Office of District 180, the state’s turnaround effort.
